- Indian gooseberries (Amla) – ½ kg
- Ghee – 1/3 cup
- Jaggery(Gud) – 400 gm
- Few strands of saffron (kesar)
- Seedless raisins – a handful
- Seedless dates – 10-11
For spice powder
- Clove(laung) – 5 gm
- Nutmeg (jaiphal) – 5 gm
- Black pepper (kali mirch) – 5 gm
- Green cardamom (chhoti elaichi) – 5-6 pieces
- Fennel seeds (saunf) – 1 tbsp.
- Long pepper (pipli) – 10 gm
- Dry ginger (saunth)- 10 gm
- Cinnamon stick (dalchini) – 1 inch

How To Make Homemade Chyawanprash: Step By Step
- Wash the Amlas thoroughly in running water.
- Put them in a pressure cooker with ½ cup water to cook on high flame for two whistles.
- Once it cools completely, take out the amlas and keep them aside.
- Use the water from the cooker to soak and soften dates and raisins. This usually takes 10 minutes.

- Sieve this powder once, and collect it in a bowl.
- De-seed the cooled amlas and put them in a blender.
- Add a little water and blend into a smooth paste. Avoid lumps or fibre.

- Heat a pan over medium flame and add ghee.
- Once the ghee melts add the Amla paste, stir continuously, and mix it well.
- Cook it on low to medium flame till the mixture thickens a bit.
- Add jaggery and cook till it mixes well. The jaggery melts in 5-7 minutes, darkening the color of the mixture.
- On thickening the mixture starts leaving the sides of the pan.
- Now add the spice powder.
- Cook more, to mix well and get a slightly darker colour.
- Finally, add the saffron strands. Cook for a few more minutes and turn off the flame.
- Allow it to cool completely before storing it.
